Understanding the different roles stations can play within the communities they serve and consider and the range of opportunities that can be unlocked through investment in and around stations. Exploring case studies of different types of enhancements in and around stations, key design principles, and how these can create a range of benefits including catalysing wider regeneration.
We will discuss how to interface with Network Rail when developing different types of interventions, and typical processes and approvals that you should be aware of.

Facilitators
Alistair Gordon
Alastair is experienced in multidisciplinary design work and is a strong communicator, able to liaise with stakeholders and local authority officers and members with confidence.
He is a Chartered Civil Engineer with significant experience of delivering schemes within urban centres. He has project managed the planning, design and delivery of numerous complicated highway and infrastructure schemes and has led the consultation with key stakeholders including the local authority, National Highways and Network Rail.
Alastair leads Arup’s Cities Planning and Design team in the North-West and Yorkshire. He is also Arup’s Transport Planning Skills Leader for UKIMEA advancing skills and knowledge sharing across the 280 transport planners in this region.
Alastair is also the Chair of the West and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce Transport Board and has a detailed knowledge of the local transport network and key stakeholders.
Mihir Benison
Mihir is a chartered architect and qualified engineer who has developed an expertise in planning transport led development. He brings a unique and creative approach to defining and solving problems, and his experience of working for both client and consultant brings a holistic approach allowing him to balance competing demands on his projects.
Mihir has over 12 years experience contributing to a range of complex strategic, infrastructure and place making projects, including the Thamesmead Waterfront Masterplan, Harrow Future High Street Fund business case and the Waterloo Station Upgrade. Mihir is able to integrate across multiple disciplines, and his skillset has most recently been applied to develop sustainable infrastructure strategies, business cases and design projects for transport infrastructure providers, private developers, and local authorities. Mihir has extensive experience in station planning and urban business cases
In addition to his experience at Arup, Mihir has previously worked for Network Rail and has been seconded into Heathrow Airport Limited. He also currently holds a position on the Design Yorkshire panel as an expert reviewer.
